NZ housing market patchy bounce of the bottom?

With the not so sunny days, I myself was pretty sure digging into stats would only reveal the winter chill. Surprisingly as far as the median house prices are concerned, some of the numbers didn’t fit my paradigm.

Auckland

The median describes the center of the sales, it is not the only measure. The REINZ puts out its numbers once a month for the prior month. May 2024 seems to reflect a 3% increase compared to May 2023. For the same months, the old Auckland City borough which includes Onehunga to Mt Wellington, shows a 18.5% increase and North Shore up 6%. Manukau City region up .6%, Waitakere down -3% and Papakura up 1.9%.

Other main centers

Christchurch May 2024 vs May 23, up a healthy 7.6%.

Wellington, -.8% down however peeking closer, the city up 2.3%, Porirua up 4.9%. While Upper Hutt down -4.6%, Lower Hutt down -8.4%.

Not so main centers

Hamilton May this year compared to last year, down -4.4%, Tauranga City up 2.2%, Whanganui District up 5.4%., Palmerston North City flat .1%.
