All sorts of new developments will be possible around mid to late 2022. The National Policy Statement on Urban development released by the government makes councils provide more land for intense developments around rapid transit stops and town centers.
The Auckland council went to the planning committee and effectively set up the framework for where these things should happen. Basically 800 meters from rapid transit stops, that’s railway stations, bus stations, and town centers. They have to release plan changes which will probably take six months to draft. Hamish Firth of Mt Hobson Group “We won’t see spades in the ground, I don’t expect until third or fourth quarter of next year”.
“If I follow the council’s logic, anywhere within 800 meters generally speaking will be rezoned to provide for six level houses if there are no qualifying factors like volcanic view shafts or heritage or character houses”
“There is a good chance, a really good chance that if you’re within that 800 meter catchment, that late next year, there could well be a zone change on your property, which allows for much more intensive development”.
