The national policy statement will mean that cities in NZ will have to release more intense development. Targeting areas with main transport hubs and town centers.

The national policy statement on urban development, which was released in 2020, has been brought forward till 2023. So it’ll mean that councils will need to move faster on getting their plan changes out.

Expect six level buildings within a 800 meter distance of town centers, main transit hubs (railway stations and big bus stations). So it brings a wide variety of housing choice, three level terraces to six level apartment buildings, all over Auckland.

This should apply to other main cities as well, like Hamilton, Tauranga, Christchurch and Wellington. The future could mean better choices for home buyers.
