Medical Insurance not the Same

Having a robust medical insurance can bring some comfort if things take a turn. Sandy has recently joined us and had an unfortunate condition develop to someone close to her.

With modern health technology, medication can be a breakthrough in getting well. This was the case with Sandy’s close friend undergoing cancer treatment. She had to have a daily pill as part of her treatment to enable a better quality of life. The cost would have been in excess of $300 per day, had it not been for an extra feature of her medical insurance policy.

What to check?

The wording in medical insurance policies which talk about Pharmac or non-Pharmac is the key words to look for. Pharmac is our government organization that decides which medicine will be funded by the tax payer. This is really good in a way as it means we as NZer’s get access to better deals on the world stage, as Pharmac can negotiate bulk deals.

However when it comes to individual care, most people would assume that paying for private medical insurance would mean access to medicine, regardless government support.

However only some medical insurances give full access to non-pharmac medication. Another reason why it is important to review cover you have, every few years.

Surprise, surprise we can make this easy for you, well Sandy can. She has access to a lot of different companies and can compare product features.
