The Auckland council has released a beautiful flood zone map(yes they are capable of nice things)which gives some sense in terms of risk. Based on the crazy rains seen in early 2023, which to be fair might actually not be common in the future.
How have the insurance companies reacted?
Not so strongly, they are still thankfully able to insure properties. The change has been in terms of premiums although other factors are also playing a role, in terms of the insurance companies and past loses. We do not see a straight relationship in relation to the data disclosed to the wider public.
It will be interest to see how this impacts the future of insurability and hence it is becoming more important to check insurability and related costs before you buy.
Of course more importantly it good to be aware of any future possible issues and also saleability which could affect values.
